The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has approached the Supreme Court with a fresh application, seeking approval to conduct the NEET PG 2025 examination on August 3. The move comes after the exam, originally scheduled for June 15, was postponed following judicial intervention.
The Supreme Court had earlier raised objections to the exam being held in two separate shifts, noting that such an arrangement could lead to inconsistencies in the difficulty level and compromise fairness. The bench directed NBEMS to ensure that the examination is conducted in a single session nationwide and permitted the board to seek additional time, if necessary, to implement the logistical changes.
The Court’s intervention was prompted by a petition from the United Doctors Front, which argued for uniformity in the exam process. Acting on the plea, the apex court issued a notice and sought a response from NBEMS.
In compliance with the Court’s directive, NBEMS has now proposed to hold the exam on August 3, from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, in a single shift. The change, however, poses significant logistical challenges. With more than 2.42 lakh aspirants expected to appear, NBEMS will need to arrange over 1,000 examination centres across 250+ cities and mobilize nearly 60,000 personnel, including invigilators and security staff.
Ensuring proper infrastructure, preventing unfair practices, and coordinating with local authorities and educational institutions are among the major hurdles NBEMS must overcome to conduct the examination smoothly.
The Supreme Court is yet to deliver a final decision on the proposed date. In the meantime, candidates are advised to stay updated through the official NBEMS website for any announcements regarding the revised schedule and related guidelines.
