Rajeev Shukla is likely to become the new BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) President, as the current President, Roger Binny, is close to reaching the age limit for the role.
Shukla, who is currently the Vice President of the board, will take over as the temporary President for the next three months.
Roger Binny, who was part of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, will turn 70 on July 19 this year. Because of this, he will pass the age limit for the BCCI President’s position, as set by the BCCI rules. India Today has learned that Rajeev Shukla will take over the President’s duties until a new person is chosen.
Binny became BCCI President in 2022, taking over from Sourav Ganguly. He played 27 Test matches and 72 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for India, taking a total of 124 wickets. He was a key player in India’s 1983 World Cup win, finishing as the highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets in eight matches.
Meanwhile, Rajeev Shukla has held the position of the BCCI vice president since 2020. He has also served as the Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) till 2017 and the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) till 2018.
