The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) collected ₹834.80 crore in property tax through its Advance Property Tax Rebate Scheme, which ran from April 8 to May 31. Around 5.98 lakh people used the scheme, and over 4 lakh paid online. The scheme offered a 12% to 15% discount for paying property tax early. Online payments brought in ₹519.26 crore, showing that more people are choosing digital payment options.
In terms of zones, the western zone collected the highest amount at ₹218.55 crore, followed by the north-western zone with ₹190.35 crore. The south-western zone added ₹123.76 crore, and the central zone collected ₹112.18 crore.
Other zones collected the following:
- East zone: ₹67.62 crore
- North zone: ₹62.04 crore
- South zone: ₹60.28 crore
Apart from property tax, the AMC also collected ₹44.89 crore in profession tax and ₹32.91 crore in vehicle tax. In total, AMC earned ₹924.78 crore from all taxes.
In previous years, the AMC has seen a steady rise in property tax collections under the Advance Property Tax Rebate Scheme. In 2023, the AMC collected approximately ₹775 crore, with around 5.5 lakh taxpayers participating in the scheme, including 3.7 lakh online payments. The trend has shown consistent growth — in 2022, the revenue stood at around ₹700 crore, and in 2021, during the peak of the pandemic, the figure was around ₹650 crore, as digital payment adoption surged.
Zone-wise collections have typically followed a similar pattern over the years, with the western and north-western zones contributing the highest shares due to higher property values and tax compliance rates in those areas.
The rebate, usually between 10% to 15%, encouraged people to pay their property tax early. At the same time, collections from profession tax and vehicle tax also went up slightly, helping the AMC increase its yearly income from direct taxes.
