India’s Active COVID-19 Cases Rise to 2,710; Kerala Reports Highest Numbers

India’s active COVID-19 cases have climbed to 2,710 as of May 30, 2025, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. As per media report, Kerala continues to report the highest number of active cases at 1,147, followed by Maharashtra (424), Delhi (294), and Gujarat (223).

Maharashtra alone has logged 84 new infections this year, pushing its cumulative count to 681, with 467 cases currently active.

Kerala has reported 227 new COVID-19 cases, while West Bengal added 59 fresh infections, bringing its total to 116. Delhi confirmed 56 new cases, pushing its active tally to 294. Rajasthan also registered 54 new cases along with one death, attributed to pre-existing conditions, notably tuberculosis.

Health Minister officials stated that the current circulating variant resembles the common flu. One child infected with the Omicron variant is hospitalized but remains stable. While there is no significant spread at present, authorities have advised continued precautions.

In Karnataka, a 63-year-old man who had tested positive for COVID-19 died, bringing the state’s death toll to three. The patient was admitted to a hospital in Mysuru on May 15 and succumbed on May 25 due to septic shock, multiple organ failure, acute kidney injury, COVID pneumonia, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav, who heads the Health and AYUSH departments, stated that the Centre is closely monitoring the rise in cases and is fully prepared to respond to any emerging situation.

The Central Health Department and the AYUSH Ministry are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation across the country, staying updated through inputs from Health and AYUSH Secretaries and other concerned officials. In Mizoram, two new COVID-19 cases have been reported after a gap of seven months. The patients are currently undergoing treatment at Zoram Medical College and Hospital. The last recorded case in the state was in October 2024, which had affected 73 individuals.

On Friday, Maharashtra recorded 84 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total for the year to 681. The public health department stated that most infections are mild and advised people to stay calm. The recent cases include 32 from Mumbai, 2 from Thane district, 14 from Thane Municipal Corporation, along with cases reported in Raigad, Nashik, and Pune districts.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has assured residents that the state’s low number of Covid-19 cases is not cause for concern. Currently, Kerala has 727 active cases, mostly in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha. The Omicron JN variant LF7, previously found in Southeast Asia, has been detected in the state.

In Chandigarh, health officials reported that two children of a 40-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, who died due to Covid-19 complications, have tested positive. The children show no symptoms and are in quarantine as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra currently has 425 active Covid-19 cases, with 165 patients having recovered.
