A 26-year-old man from Rajasthan has been booked for allegedly creating a fake Instagram profile using a woman’s name and photograph. He is also accused of sending obscene messages to the woman and her husband through various social media platforms and text messages.
As per the complaint at Ellisbridge police station, the accused created a fake Instagram account using Durga Gurjar’s name and photos without consent. He allegedly harassed the couple and sent obscene messages between April 4 and May 29, 2025.
The complainant, Narendra Singh Gurjar (26), a resident of the Ellis Bridge area in Ahmedabad, stated that he had been living with his wife in the city for the past year and working as a manager in a Mumbai-based company. He discovered the fake Instagram profile after his wife alerted him to the matter.
The accused reportedly sent vulgar messages and video call requests to the couple via Instagram, WhatsApp, and text messages using multiple mobile numbers. Despite attempts by the complainant and his wife to block the accused, the harassment allegedly continued even after the wife obtained a new SIM card.
After the complaint, Ellisbridge police registered a case and started an investigation. A police officer said that charges under the Indian Penal Code and IT Act have been applied. The police are checking the claims and collecting more evidence. No arrests have been made yet.
KM Bhuva, Inspector of Ellis Bridge police station, stated that, “We are trying to trace down the IP address of the source of the messages and will soon he or she will be nabbed. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused is operating from Rajasthan. ”
