On Monday, the Supreme Court collegium recommended appointing three judges to the top court:
- A.S. Chandurkar (Judge of Bombay High Court)
- NV Anjaria (Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court)
- Vijay Bishnoi (Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court)
The five-member Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, decided to recommend three names to fill the current judge vacancies. These vacancies came after the retirement of former CJI Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Abhay S. Oka and Hrishikesh Roy.
“The Supreme Court collegium in its meeting held on May 26, 2025 has recommended elevation of the following chief justices/judge of the high courts, as judges in the Supreme Court – Justice N V Anjaria, Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice A S Chandurkar,” said a resolution uploaded on the apex court website.
Justice Anjaria became Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on February 25, 2024. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court on November 21, 2011, and became a permanent judge on September 6, 2013. He was born on March 23, 1965, in Ahmedabad and earned his Master’s degree in law there in 1989.
