The second round of admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, has resulted in over 7,000 additional students being granted entry into Class 1 at self-financed schools, the state education department announced on Wednesday.
According to an official statement, 7,006 students were allotted seats during the second phase of the admission process conducted on May 21. These students are now required to visit their assigned schools in person during regular school hours and complete the necessary verification procedures by Wednesday, May 28, 2025. This includes submitting essential documents to confirm their enrollment.
Despite the latest round of allocations, 7,378 RTE seats remain unfilled across the state. Officials attributed the vacancies primarily to the lack of applicant preferences for certain schools.
The RTE Act mandates that private unaided schools reserve 25% of their Class 1 seats for students from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups, with admissions conducted via a centralized lottery system.
The education department is expected to release further updates regarding subsequent rounds of admission for the remaining vacant seats.
