In a shocking incident in Surat, a 25-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men, including a BJP worker, after spiking her soft-drink.
The BJP Surat City ward’s general secretary Aditya Upadhyay allegedly spiked the woman’s drink before driving her, half-conscious, to a hotel where his associate, Gaurav Singh, was already waiting. The duo allegedly raped the woman in turns.
It all started with an Instagram follow request that Upadhyay sent to the woman.
The woman, originally from Bihar, lived at Ved Road in Surat with her family.
On May 17, the Upadhyay invited the woman for a drive to Dumas beach.
She agreed to go out with him along with her friend and Singh.
While they were on their way, Upadhyay spiked a soft drink with alcohol and gave it to the woman to drink.
The woman started feeling nauseous and lost consciousness.
Seizing the opportunity, Upadhyay dropped her friend who accompanied her and drove her to a OYO Green Hotel. His associate, Singh, was already waiting.
Notably, Upadhyay is a Mahamantri at Ward 8 in Surat. As per reports, the party has suspended him. Police Inspector of Jahangirpura Police Station has filed a case against Aditya Upadhyay and Gaurav Singh.
Both were arrested along with their mobile phones and a car.
While investigating, the police found that all three – the woman, Upadhyay, and Singh – were at the hotel, according to the register.
