The Madras High Court has stayed the declaration of NEET-UG 2025 results after hearing pleas from 13 candidates who said their exam was disrupted by a power outage at the Avadi centre near Chennai. On May 16, 2025, Justice V. Lakshminarayanan issued an interim order preventing the National Testing Agency (NTA) from announcing the results until further notice.
The candidates were among 464 students who took the exam at the Avadi centre. They argued that the power outage, which lasted from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm on May 4, 2025, disrupted their ability to complete the exam properly. Since there were no backup power arrangements at the venue, the students had to continue the exam in poor lighting conditions.
Additionally, rainwater entered the exam hall, forcing the candidates to move to a different location. Despite their requests for extra time to compensate for the disruptions, the exam authorities denied their appeals.
What happens next? The NTA must submit its response by June 2, 2025. The delay in announcing the results has worried many candidates eager to continue their academic journey. However, the stay order does not impact the release of the provisional answer key, which is expected to be available soon.
The NEET 2025 answer key will soon be released on the official website, neet.nta.nic.in. Candidates will have the chance to challenge any answers they believe are incorrect by paying Rs 200 per challenge within the given time. The NTA will review all objections and publish the final answer key after considering the challenges.
