In a continued crackdown on criminal networks, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), with help from local police, demolished an illegal three-storey building on Wednesday in Muthiya village, Naroda.
The building belonged to Jayesh alias Jigo Solanki, a well-known bootlegger with more than 40 criminal cases filed against him at the Naroda police station. Solanki is accused of running a large bootlegging operation and has a record of violent crimes, including several attacks on police officers.
The demolition drive was carried out as part of a coordinated action against organised crime under section 111(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The AMC’s demolition squad used bulldozers to raze the unauthorised structure in the presence of heavy police deployment.
Police sources said Solanki, along with his associates Anil alias Kali and Pradeep alias Padiyo, had been operating a liquor smuggling network that sourced large consignments of alcohol from outside Gujarat and supplied them in Ahmedabad. Authorities have also found financial transactions worth over ₹1 crore linked to the syndicate in various bank accounts, following which a report was sent to the Income Tax Department for further probe.
“This action is part of our sustained efforts against organised crime in the area. The accused have been repeatedly violating prohibition laws and have a long history of attacking police teams,” said P V Gohil, Inspector of Naroda police station.
