Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has appealed to the BCCI to conduct the remaining matches of IPL 2025 in a low-key manner. The tournament is scheduled to restart on May 17 with Match 58 featuring Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
As preparations for the IPL 2025 restart get underway, Sunil Gavaskar has urged the BCCI to conduct the matches without loud music or DJ performances. His request comes in light of the ongoing border tensions between India and Pakistan, where several families have lost their loved ones.
“What I would really like to see is. These are the last few matches, we have had about 60 games or thereabouts. I think it is the last 15 or 16 games. I would sincerely hope, because of what has happened and some families have lost their near and dear ones, I would like that there is no music. Let’s not have the DJS screaming in the middle of an over,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.
Furthermore, Gavaskar emphasized the importance of respecting the sentiments of the families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones, urging the BCCI to show sensitivity during the remaining matches of the tournament.
“None of that. Let the games be played. Let the crowds come in. Let’s just have a tournament, the balance of a tournament. It’s just no dancing girls, nothing. Just cricket would be a really nice way to respect the sentiment of the families who have lost their near and dear ones,” he added.
IPL 2025 was suspended for a week following a sudden attack by Pakistan on several regions in north India during Match 58 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamsala. The match was halted midway and is now scheduled to be replayed on May 24 in Jaipur.
The remaining fixtures of the tournament will now run parallel to the international cricket calendar, leading to uncertainty over the availability of several overseas players, particularly from England, South Africa, and Australia.
