Ahmedabad is expected to face another round of rainy and stormy weather, says the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city may see light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 50-60 kmph on Saturday.
Friday brought cooler-than-usual weather to the city, with the maximum temperature dipping to 34.5°Celsius – a full 7 degrees below the seasonal average – and the minimum settling at 22.3°C, which is 4.4 degrees lower than normal. The city recorded 7.7 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, with humidity levels peaking at 88% in the morning before dropping to 51% by evening.
The IMD attributes the current weather pattern to an active trough stretching from the east-central Arabian Sea to northeast Rajasthan, passing through south Gujarat. This system is expected to trigger more rain and thunderstorms across several parts of the state over the weekend. Widespread showers were reported in many areas of Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch in past 24 hours. While some parts of the state experienced a rise in daytime temperatures, much of Kutch saw a decline.
On May 11, only a few regions are expected to receive rainfall. Isolated showers have been forecast for May 12 in districts including Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Kheda, Anand, Dahod, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and Botad.
Rain may continue on May 13 in some areas, including Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath. The rest of the state is expected to stay dry.
Starting May 14, dry weather is likely to return and remain for several days.
