The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) faces an uncertain future, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) likely to suspend the tournament indefinitely due to rising military tensions between India and Pakistan, according to top board officials.
The development comes after Thursday’s dramatic mid-match abandonment of the game between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. The match, played at the HPCA Stadium, was halted during the 11th over of Punjab’s innings after floodlights suddenly went out. While initially attributed to a technical fault, sources later confirmed the interruption was linked to an air raid alert triggered by growing security concerns in areas near Jammu, Pathankot, and the Rajasthan border.
Spectators and players were swiftly evacuated from the venue as a precautionary measure.
A senior BCCI official, speaking anonymously to MyKhel, admitted that the entire tournament is under review. “Given the current security climate and the situation with Pakistan, the continuation of IPL 2025 is under serious threat,” the official said. A final decision on the suspension is expected to be announced on Friday, May 9, following high-level discussions within the board.
