Tensions between India and Pakistan surged late Monday night as Jammu came under a suspected swarm drone attack, prompting India to activate its state-of-the-art S-400 Triumf air defence system to intercept and destroy incoming missiles and drones launched from across the border.
The escalation follows India’s Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. In what appears to be a retaliatory move, Pakistani forces reportedly deployed coordinated drone assaults targeting Indian border regions.
Residents of Jammu reported multiple loud explosions, followed by emergency sirens wailing across the city. Similar alarms were triggered in Kupwara, located over 300 kilometers away, where aerial activity was also detected. Both regions are now facing power outages amid heightened security measures.
Radar installations picked up several hostile aerial objects nearing Indian airspace, leading to the rapid deployment of the S-400 system — considered one of the world’s most advanced anti-aircraft and missile defence technologies. Visuals circulating on social media show bright flashes in the night sky, believed to be successful drone interceptions.
Security forces confirmed the interception of several drones, and aerial surveillance has been intensified along sensitive stretches of the Line of Control (LoC). Authorities are closely monitoring developments as concerns mount over further escalation.
This marks one of the most significant uses of the S-400 in an active defence scenario, underlining the seriousness of the threat and the evolving nature of warfare in the region.
