A bomb threat was received through a phone call to the Sahar Airport hotline in Mumbai, warning of an explosive device on an IndiGo flight, according to sources. The alert comes shortly after India carried out airstrikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Authorities have initiated an emergency response, and security agencies are carrying out detailed inspections.
“Flight 6E 6382 operating from Chandigarh to Mumbai received a bomb threat. As per protocol, the aircraft was taken to an isolation bay, passengers disembarked safely and all standard operating procedures were followed. We deeply appreciate the patience, understanding, and cooperation of our customers. The safety of our customers is our highest priority, and we remain dedicated to ensuring a secure and smooth travel experience for all,” the airline said in its statement.
Codenamed Operation Sindoor, the Indian airstrikes targeted nine facilities associated with terror groups Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
Shortly after Operation Sindoor, government sources stated that Indian airspace is under close watch and described the situation as a national emergency. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is closely monitoring developments, emphasizing that passenger safety is the highest priority.
On Wednesday morning, IndiGo announced on X that flight operations to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala were affected due to changing airspace conditions. In a later update, the airline also confirmed that flights to and from Bikaner were impacted by the ongoing airspace restrictions.
Following the strikes, the Indian Army issued a statement around 2 am. “A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched OPERATION SINDOOR, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine sites have been targeted,” it shared.
