Due to ongoing heat wave conditions in Gujarat, temperatures in Saurashtra and Kutch are expected to stay between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Tuesday, Rajkot was the hottest place in the state with 44.9°C. Other high temperatures were recorded in Ahmedabad (44.8°C), Amreli (44.5°C), Kandla Airport (44.3°C), Gandhinagar (44°C), Surendranagar (43.9°C), Vadodara (42.4°C), Keshod (42°C), Bhuj (41.8°C), and Deesa (41.6°C).
According to the weather department forecast, an orange alert with “severe heat wave conditions” are “very likely” to prevail in Rajkot till Wednesday morning along with “heat wave conditions” in Surendranagar, Morbi, Botad and Kutch.
Heat wave conditions are likely to continue in Rajkot, Surendranagar, Morbi and Kutch till Thursday, the forecast added.
Further, no substantial change in maximum temperature is expected till Friday, after which a fall by 2-4 degrees is expected in the state, the weather department stated.
In addition to the heat wave, hot and humid weather is also likely to cause discomfort in the coastal areas of South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch until Thursday, May 1.
