Three people have died in separate road accidents in the city in the last 48 hours. An elderly man was killed when a BRTS bus ran over him near D-Cabin in Sabarmati on Saturday.
The victim, 85-year-old Keshav Prasad Tiwari, a retired railway worker from Keshav Nagar Society in Sabarmati, was on his electric scooter heading to an Ayurvedic clinic in Navrangpura for a check-up. On his way back, while crossing near the Sabarmati Acher crematorium, a BRTS bus hit his scooter from behind. Tiwari fell and suffered serious injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
In another incident on the same day, Arvindi Soni, 65, a resident of New Ranip, was fatally hit by a speeding car driven by one Jyoti Maliwal of Vadaj. The accident occurred near Sardar Patel’s statue in Navrangpura and Soni was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
In the third incident in Odhav, an unidentified 33-year-old man was struck by a vehicle near Sukhiyanagar tri-roads on Friday night. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police are currently scanning CCTV footage from nearby locations in an effort to trace the fleeing vehicle.
Biker hits police vehicle
In a separate incident on Sunday, a speeding biker rear-ended a police vehicle from the Ranip Police Station near Subhash Bridge Circle. The vehicle, driven by an outsourced driver on routine patrol, was struck by the biker. L Division police have filed a case against the biker and have begun an investigation.
