If you’re not satisfied with how dry surfaces are cleaned at home, a student from the National Institute of Design (NID) believes the problem could be the traditional broom design.
Monish Nisha Bafna, a master’s student in product design, has created a new solution — the HP Broom (Hari Priya Broom) — a simple innovation aimed at making everyday cleaning easier.
“Traditional brooms often fall short in efficiency, comfort and cleaning effectiveness. This project focuses on optimising the bristle design-addressing issues like poor dust pickup, difficulty reaching corners and the need for repeated strokes. With carefully reworked bristle density, spread, and shape, the HP Broom delivers faster and more thorough cleaning in fewer sweeps, while remaining lightweight and intuitive to use,” Monish explained.
It balances familiarity with function. It is especially well-suited for compact homes, where both performance and ease of use matter, he said.
The name subtly reflects the idea of cleanliness as a source of well-being, Monish said.
According to NID”The product is designed to be universal, Intuitive, and inclusive appealing to a broad and diverse user base. A simple yet brilliant innovation, the HP Broom brings meaningful change to a product that touches millions of lives daily -without losing its essence”.
