Starting Sunday, Metro trains from Motera will now operate directly to Sachivalaya, significantly enhancing daily commuting options between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. This citizen-centric development, is set to benefit thousands of government employees and residents.
The extension, part of Phase 2 of the Metro project, was recently inaugurated and covers the route from Motera to Sector 1 in Gandhinagar. It includes seven stations: Koteshwar Road (adjacent to Motera Stadium station), Vishwakarma College (home to the Gujarat Technological University headquarters), Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle (near the State BJP headquarters), Sector 10A, and Sachivalaya, the Gujarat State Assembly campus.
The inclusion of Sachivalaya as a Metro destination is especially beneficial for government employees who reside in Ahmedabad. Direct trains will now run from APMC Market to Sachivalaya, with trains every 10 minutes.
While the Motera-Sector 1 stretch and the GNLU-GIFT City route are already operational, work on the final stretch from Sector 1 to Mahatma Mandir is underway and is expected to be completed by December.
The Metro Corporation is actively expanding its network. A proposal to extend the line to the airport is pending approval from the Centre, and a detailed project report (DPR) is being developed for a proposed Olympic Route extension, underscoring the city’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure.
