As the admission process for first-year undergraduate courses approaches, the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS) has started outlining the steps for decentralized admissions. Unlike last year, students applying through GCAS will now receive multiple offers from shortlisted colleges, based on merit. Officials stated that this change is expected to shorten the overall admission timeline, as fewer students will need to participate in the reshuffle round.
“Last year, a student could get only one admission offer from the top college that he/she chose among a choice of 15 colleges. If the student did not want to take admission in that college he/she had to go for the reshuffle round. This time, however, students will get offers from around five colleges as per merit and based on the choice of colleges that they filled in the portal,” said an official at GU.
Officials said the admission offer list will be centrally prepared and managed by the university and the seat matrix will have to be strictly followed while offering and confirming admissions. “In the second round – reshuffling, students will confirm their first round offer first in the student dashboard and then at the respective colleges. It is after this step that a consent tab will appear in the student dashboard which will be active till the end of the first round. If a student wants to accept the upgraded offer, she/he will first have to cancel their previous admission from the student dashboard and then confirm the upgraded offer,” the official said explaining the GCAS process.
