Ahmedabad witnessed a spiritually immersive and artistically profound experience with ‘Hanumanji & Maya’, the first solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Nidhi Shah. Held at Amdavad Ni Gufa the exhibition showcased a collection of sculptures and paintings that explored Indian mythology through a contemporary lens.
Blending classical iconography with a modern aesthetic, Shah’s work draws inspiration from ancient temple carvings, mythological tales, and the philosophical concept of Maya, the illusion or attachment that binds human experience. The exhibition featured striking pieces such as Hanumanji with Ring, Ram Setu, Aqua Creature vs Hanumanji, and Throne of Tail, among others. Each artwork invited visitors to see ancient, timeless stories in a fresh light.
A graduate of Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai, Shah has long been drawn to the spiritual and symbolic richness of Indian lore. Her childhood in a vibrant joint family, coupled with frequent excursions to the mountains and temples, deeply shaped her artistic style.
Speaking about her first solo show, Shah said, “Through this collection, I have tried to bring back forgotten stories that once shaped our cultural beliefs. I have given them an Indian yet modern touch. ‘Hanumanji & Maya’ is about mythology and also about how we hold on to things in our lives. I want each artwork to act like a mirror, urging viewers to reflect, remember and reconnect with their roots.”
The exhibition left audiences captivated with its unique blend of old-world charm and modern storytelling.
