Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday that he is planning to bring a new law that will allow only the sounds of Indian musical instruments to be used as vehicle horns.
According to a media report, while speaking at the 78th Foundation Year Celebration of Navbharat Times, Nitin Gadkari said, “I am planning to make a law so that vehicle horns sound like Indian musical instruments. They should be pleasant to hear, like the sound of a flute, tabla, violin, or harmonium.”
Gadkari said that the transport sector is responsible for 40% of the air pollution in the country. He added that the Modi government is encouraging the use of vehicles that run on green and bio-fuels like methanol and ethanol.
He also mentioned that India earns the most export revenue from two-wheelers and cars. In 2014, the Indian automobile industry was worth Rs 14 trillion, and now it has grown to Rs 22 trillion.
Gadkari said that India has overtaken Japan to become the world’s third-largest automobile market, after the US and China.
He also mentioned that running a newspaper is not easy, as owners have to depend on advertisements to cover their daily expenses.
