In a groundbreaking move, the Mumbai-Manmad Panchvati Express now features an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) on board, making it the first Indian Railways train to offer such a facility. Officials have confirmed that the ATM has been installed in an AC chair car coach and will soon be accessible to passengers.
The ATM, provided by the Bank of Maharashtra, has been installed at the rear end of the coach in a cubicle typically used as a makeshift pantry. To ensure security and ease of access while the train is in motion, the machine is protected by a shutter door.
The modification was carried out at the Manmad Railway Workshop, where the designated coach was upgraded with the necessary infrastructure and equipment to keep the ATM operational during the journey. Electrical provisions and structural adjustments have been made to ensure the machine operates seamlessly while the train is in motion.
The Mumbai to Manmad Panchavati Express, train number 12109, is a daily service running from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai to Manmad Junction (MMR), covering the journey in approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes.
Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Swapnil Nila confirmed the successful installation of the ATM, stating, “The train arrived in Mumbai this morning with the ATM-equipped coach attached. This is a unique initiative, and we are hopeful it will provide added convenience to passengers.”
This initiative is part of the Innovative & Non-Fare Ideas Scheme between the Bhusawal division of Central Railway and the Bank of Maharashtra.
