In a tragic incident reminiscent of the Kurla BEST accident, a speeding government bus ran over several pedestrians in Gujarat’s Rajkot city on Wednesday, April 16. At least three people lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries after the bus ploughed into a group of seven to eight people. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
The accident took place near KKV Chowk in Rajkot. It sparked public outrage, leading to protests and vandalism. Locals also blocked the road. Police intervened to control the situation, and an investigation is underway.A footage recorded by a CCTV camera installed on the road has gone viral on social media. In the 22-second viral clip, a yellow-and-white speeding bus can be seen hitting several vehicles, including crushing bikes under its wheels, believed to be at a traffic signal, before coming to a stop after covering some distance.
Pooja yadav said, “This appears to be a fatal accident involving a city bus, resulting in the death of three people. As of now, we haven’t received full details about the deceased. All dead bodies and the injured have been sent to the hospital via ambulance. Our effort is to ensure that traffic in the area remains unhindered”.
DCP (Traffic) Pooja Yadav of Rajkot City Police stated that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem. Local residents alleged that the bus driver was under the influence of alcohol and have demanded his immediate arrest. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and officials confirmed that strict action will be taken against those found responsible.
