Authorities have imposed vehicle entry limits in the popular hill stations of Ooty and Kodaikanal to manage overcrowding and environmental concerns.
As per the new regulations, only 6,000 vehicles will be allowed to enter Ooty on weekdays, while the number will be increased to 8,000 on weekends. Similarly, in Kodaikanal, 4,000 vehicles will be permitted entry on weekdays, and the limit will rise to 6,000 on weekends.
The decision has been taken to reduce traffic congestion, curb pollution, and preserve the fragile ecosystem of these tourist hotspots. Officials have urged visitors to opt for public transport and carpooling to ease the burden on the roads.
Tourists and local businesses have expressed mixed reactions to the move. While environmentalists have welcomed the initiative, some traders fear that it may impact tourism-related businesses.
Authorities will strictly monitor vehicle inflow, and visitors exceeding the limit may have to wait or seek alternative travel arrangements.
This regulation is expected to be enforced during peak seasons to ensure a sustainable and enjoyable experience for tourists.
