The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) initiated a pet dog registration program earlier this year to ensure that the city is rabies-free. The registration procedure started from January 1 with an initial deadline of March 31. However, the AMC has extended the deadline to April 30.
As of March 29, the AMC portal has registered 4,437 pet dogs by 3,916 owners across seven zones. The west zone has recorded the highest number of registrations, with 1,189 pet dogs registered by 1,049 owners. Breeds such as German Shepherd, Labrador and Siberian Husky have been registered in this zone.
The north-west zone registered 1,033 pet dogs by 910 owners, with popular breeds including Pomeranian, German Shepherd, Labrador and Golden Retriever. On the other hand, the central zone has recorded the lowest number of registrations, with only 146 pet dogs registered by 139 owners. Common breeds in this zone include Labrador, German Shepherd and Pomeranian.
