At least 17 people were killed following a blast at a firecracker factory in the collapse of the building in Baraskantha district of Gujarat on Tuesday. The incident occurred near Deesa Town.
The blast in the firecracker factory resulted in a blaze and the collapse of the RCC slab of the factory. According to the District Collector, the blast occurred around 9.45 am, in the factory in the industrial area, when the firecrackers were being made. Several workers were trapped under the rubble when the slab of the factory collapsed. Family members of the workers living in the premises were also trapped under the rubble.
The firefighters from the Deesa Municipality doused the blaze and an operation to rescue those trapped was in progress. A team of the State Disaster Response Force also rushed to the site for the rescue work.
