India has secured the third position globally for the highest number of billionaires, with 284 individuals featured on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025. Despite a ₹1 trillion decline in his fortune from last year, Mukesh Ambani remains the richest person in Asia with a net worth of ₹8.6 trillion. He edged past Gautam Adani, whose wealth grew 13% to ₹8.4 trillion.
India Adds 13 New Billionaires
This year, India saw the addition of 13 new billionaires, bringing the total count to 284. The combined wealth of Indian billionaires now stands at ₹98 trillion, nearly one-third of the country’s GDP and surpassing Saudi Arabia’s entire GDP.
Among India’s billionaires, 175 individuals saw an increase in their wealth, while 109 experienced stagnation or a decline.
Mumbai Still the Billionaire Capital of India
Mumbai continues to be India’s billionaire hub, hosting 90 billionaires. However, it lost its position as Asia’s billionaire capital to Shanghai, which now leads with 92 billionaires, followed by Beijing (91).
Mumbai still saw 11 new billionaire entrants, outpacing global cities like London (7) and Beijing (8).
