The state has issued over 20,000 health permits for liquor, generating approximately Rs 12 crore in permit fees. Ahmedabad leads with 7,390 permits issued in the past two years, followed by Surat with 6,975 permits.
This information was provided by the state health minister in the Assembly on Wednesday, in response to questions from Opposition Congress MLAs.
During this period, Amdavadis paid Rs 7.23 crore in liquor permit fees, while those in Surat paid Rs 6.43 crore. These figures cover the periods from January 2023-24 and January 2024-25.
In Vadodara, 668 permits were issued, bringing in Rs 93.95 lakh. Rajkot saw 635 permits issued, generating Rs 1.84 crore. Jamnagar issued 1,560 permits, resulting in an income of Rs 3.86 crore.
In Anand and Mehsana, 844 and 308 permits were issued respectively, with no rejections. Notably, no fees were collected in these two cities.
