A 21-year-old woman from Assam died on Tuesday morning after she and a bike driver associated with Rapido fell off Gujarat’s Gota flyover in Ahmedabad, police said. The rider of the bike, which hit the flyover’s retaining wall, has sustained serious injuries.
Nisha Pavan Baheti, an interior designer and resident of Golaghat in Assam, suffered critical injuries to her head, right eye, left leg and abdomen. The rider, Sailesh Ganesh Parmar (28), suffered injuries to both hands and his abdomen, as well as fractures in both legs.
On Thursday, PI R V Vinchhi of SG Highway 2 Traffic police said that while Baheti succumbed at the hospital, Parmar was still under treatment.
An FIR was filed by the police based on a complaint by Nishant Balkishan Chandak, a resident of Surat and the husband of Baheti’s cousin. It alleges that Parmar was “negligently” driving at a high speed and hit the left side of the retaining wall, throwing the two over onto the road below.
The FIR states that Chandak, at 11.43 am on March 18 (Tuesday), received a call from his brother-in-law informing him that Baheti had met with an accident on the SG Highway in Ahmedabad. Baheti was declared dead at 2.50 pm before the family could reach Sola Civil Hospital, where both she and the driver had been admitted.
