The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest forecast, has issued a yellow warning for a heatwave in some parts of Gujarat over the next five days, until March 12. The heatwave is likely to cause discomfort as hot and humid weather is expected to prevail across the region, even though summer officially began just eight days ago.
IMD’s forecast for the next seven days indicates a gradual rise in temperatures and states:
- A gradual rise of 3-5°C in maximum temperatures is very likely over the region in the next five days.
- A gradual rise of 3-5°C in minimum temperatures is also very likely over the region in the next five days.
- Discomfort due to hot & humid air is very likely to prevail over coastal areas of Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch from March 8 to March 12, 2025.

Heatwave conditions are very likely to occur at isolated pockets in Banaskantha district (North Gujarat region) and in Saurashtra-Kutch, particularly Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Kutch.
March 11 (Day 4)
Heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Banaskantha district (North Gujarat region) and in Saurashtra-Kutch, particularly Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Kutch.
March 12 (Day 5)
Heatwave conditions are very likely to persist at isolated pockets in Banaskantha district (North Gujarat region) and in Saurashtra-Kutch, particularly Rajkot and Kutch.

IMPACT:
- High temperatures may increase the likelihood of heat illness symptoms in people exposed to the sun for prolonged periods or engaged in heavy work.
- High health risk for vulnerable groups, including infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.
SUGGESTED ACTIONS:
(a) Avoid heat exposure—stay cool and hydrated.
(b) Drink sufficient water, even if not thirsty.
(c) Use ORS and homemade drinks such as lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, and buttermilk to stay hydrated.
