A tragic incident occurred near the Bhatha Canal in the Vasna area of Ahmedabad on Wednesday evening, where three young men are feared to have drowned after the car they were in plunged into the canal while filming a social media reel.
A group of young men had rented a Scorpio car from a self-drive rental service near Himalaya Mall in Vastrapur for the purpose of creating social media content. The group, consisting of Maulik Ramesh Bhai Jalera, Yugh Vayanta, Yaksh Bhankodia, Virajsinh Rathod, Krish Dave, Dhruv, Rutayu, and Yash Solanki, drove to the Bhatha Canal near the Vasna barrage at approximately 6:30 PM.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that Yaksh initially drove the car a short distance. Subsequently, Yash Solanki, who reportedly did not know how to drive, took control of the vehicle. While attempting a U-turn, the car veered off course and plunged into the canal.
Upon seeing the car fall into the water, Virajsinh attempted to rescue his three friends by throwing a rope into the canal. However, due to the strong current, the three men were swept away. Other members of the group raised an alarm, and local residents rushed to the scene to assist.
Fire and emergency services, along with the police, were immediately notified and arrived at the location to initiate a search and rescue operation. Vasna Police Inspector confirmed that Krish Dave, Yaksh Bhankodia, and Yash Solanki are the individuals who are believed to have drowned. The car was found with its doors open, and the strong current in the canal is suspected to have carried the men away. Divers and fire personnel are continuing their search efforts.
Authorities have also revealed that a minor was present with the group during the incident.
This incident highlights the growing trend of young people taking risks while creating content for social media platforms. The search for the missing individuals is ongoing, and the authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
