A passenger arriving from Jeddah was caught with gold worth Rs 42.91 lakh at Ahmedabad airport on Friday morning. The Customs department seized five gold chains weighing a total of 488 grams. This is the second such gold smuggling case reported at the airport within a week.
According to Customs officials, the passenger, a resident of Barmer in Rajasthan, arrived on IndiGo’s Jeddah-Ahmedabad flight 6E76. Officers grew suspicious when they noticed the man repeatedly adjusting something around his neck.
On checking, they found two rhodium-coated gold chains around his neck. Further investigation revealed a packet hidden in a concealed pocket of his kurta, containing five more gold chains. The total weight of the gold was 488 grams, valued at Rs 42.91 lakh.
