The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)-launched pet dog registration initiative saw 2,949 registrations by 2,605 dog owners across the city through the AMC portal till February 27. The corporation had announced the drive on January 1 this year as part of its efforts to make the city rabies-free.
The West Zone recorded the highest number of registrations, with 760 pet dogs registered by 666 owners. It is followed by the North-West Zone which saw 684 pet dogs’ registration by 617 owners. With 92 registrations by 87 owners, the Central Zone reported the lowest registration numbers.
In the last 58 days, the South-West Zone recorded 535 dogs’ registration by 446 owners, while the East Zone reported 340 registrations by 313 owners. Additionally, 321 dogs were registered in South Zone by 286 owners, and 195 were registered in North Zone by 172 owners.
The AMC portal has recorded a diverse range of breeds, including Labrador, German Shepherd, Pomeranian, Golden Retriever, Shih Tzu, Pug, Doberman, and Siberian Husky. To increase awareness regarding pet dog registration, the CNCD department of the AMC has run animated content on smart city LED boards and advertisements. Video clips are also being displayed across the city. The deadline for pet dog registration is set for March 31. However, the AMC might extend the registration deadline.
