A passenger traveling from Ahmedabad Airport took to X to raise the issue of exorbitant food prices at the outlets operating in Terminal 2. Highlighting the steep pricing, he shared a post showing tea being sold at ₹240, idli at ₹300, and vada pav at ₹270, questioning whether such monopoly-driven pricing is regulated.
Tagging the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Minister of Civil Aviation, and the Adani Group, which manages the airport, the customer Nalin in a tweet said, ” Daylight Loot – Look at these inflated & exorbitant food prices at the only operational outlet at #Ahmedabad Airport T2: Tea – ₹240 Idli – ₹300 Vada Pav – ₹270 Is there any regulation or can monopoly-driven pricing continue unchecked?”
In response, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) management acknowledged the complaint, stating, “Dear Nalin, thank you for writing to us. We have noted your feedback and have shared it with our concerned team for their attention. Additionally, we would like to inform you that the prices are in line with those at other airports, and combo meals and offers are available at certain F&B outlets. You may also explore other food outlet options. Team SVPIA”
Unconvinced, the passenger pushed back, arguing that with only one operational outlet, travelers had no alternative choices, making high prices unavoidable. “Is this kind of competition going on with other Airports? My concern is that there is only one operational outlet who is looting and there are no other options? Please re-look into what is being offered at what prices!”
The exchange has fueled concerns about airport food pricing and how the general public is being charged multiple times the market price for food items available at nominal rates. It is also noteworthy that a similar social media post went viral last year when a customer shared that pani puri, generally available in the range of ₹20 to ₹50 across the country, was being sold for over ₹300 at Mumbai Airport.
