Surat saw yet another hit-and-run incident near Laskana crossroads. On Sunday evening, a speeding car caused a tragic accident by ramming into two bikes one after another. The impact was so severe that the car overturned after the collision.
Two bikers lost their lives on the spot, while a young woman sustained critical injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning during treatment. The police have registered a case of culpable homicide against the car driver.
Thirty five-year-old Rajesh Mansukh Gajera and his sister Shobha, residents of Kamrej, were travelling on a motorcycle for a family-related errand on Sunday evening when disaster struck. Near the Laskana police outpost, a reckless driver lost control of his car and crashed into their bike. Another biker, Mahesh Lathiya (48), a resident of Matrushakti Society in Puna village, was also hit by the same car before it overturned and collided with a divider.
Rajesh and Mahesh were rushed to SMIMER Hospital in an ambulance, but doctors declared them dead on arrival. Rajesh’s critically injured sister was admitted to a private hospital, where she, too, passed away on Monday. Car driver Arjun Virani, 34, from Mamta Park Society, Kapodra, was handed over to the police by locals. A case of culpable homicide has been filed against him.
