Gujarat’s 109-kilometre-long, 8-lane Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is in its final phase, with 91% of construction completed. The ₹4,500 crore project was initially slated to open by the end of January. It is set to significantly enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, and Dholera, India’s first greenfield smart city.
Currently, the 169 km journey between Ahmedabad and Bhavnagar takes over 3 hours. With the expressway reducing the distance to 141 km, travel time will be cut to just 1 hour and 45 minutes. The new road will alter travel between Ahmedabad and Dholera, cutting the journey time from 2 hours 15 minutes to just 40-45 minutes.
Beyond speed and convenience, the expressway is a major step in regional economic development. Improved access to Dholera is expected to attract businesses and accelerate industrial growth. The project is a crucial part of the smart city’s expansion, enhancing infrastructure and investment opportunities.
