The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has opened applications for the second round of its pilot phase, offering over 1 lakh internship opportunities in top companies across 730+ districts in India. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced this in a release on February 20, 2025.
Targeted at individuals aged 21 to 24 who are not currently enrolled in full-time education or employment, the scheme aims to provide them with a valuable career-starting opportunity. It was first introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2024-25.
The first round of the PMIS pilot began on October 3, 2024, with a dedicated online portal (pminternship.mca.gov.in) for companies to list internship opportunities. The application window for Round 1 closed on November 15, 2024, attracting over 6 lakh applications.

How to apply for the PM Internship Scheme?
Eligible individuals should register on the website, create a profile, and apply for internship opportunities across various sectors. In Round 2, each applicant can apply for up to three internships until the application deadline. The scheme offers individuals 12-month paid internships with top Indian companies.
PM Internship Scheme: What is the monthly financial assistance? Each intern will receive monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000, along with a one-time financial aid of Rs 6,000. Each internship will be a combination of relevant training and professional experience (at least six months), as per the Ministry of Corporate Affairs release.
Note that Aadhaar seeding is essential for receiving Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) provided by various government schemes.
Insurance coverage under the PM Internship Scheme
Insurance coverage is provided for every intern under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana by the Government of India As per the PM Internship Scheme FAQs, “Insurance coverage shall be provided to each individual intern under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, for which the premium amount shall be provided by the Government of India. In addition, the company may also provide additional accidental insurance coverage to the interns.”
Eligibility Criteria for PM Internship Scheme
To apply for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS), candidates must meet the following requirements:
Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.
Age Limit: Should be between 21 and 24 years old (as of the last date for application submission).
Employment & Education Status:
Must not be engaged in full-time employment or full-time education.
Candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programs are eligible.
Educational Qualifications: Must have completed at least one of the following:
Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or its equivalent.
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or its equivalent.
A certificate from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI).
A diploma from a polytechnic institute.
A graduate degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, etc.
