2) Examining a city’s industrial & historical fabric through a movie
Saacha: The Loom, a film by Anjali Monteiro and KP Jayasankar, chronicles the changing life and times of a city — in this case, Mumbai. Creating a unique visual blend of poetry and paintings with memories of the city, the movie examines “the politics of representation, the relevance of art in the contemporary social milieu, the dilemmas of the left and the trade union movement and the changing face of a huge metropolis.” Filmed in 2000, around the time the cotton textile industry in the city was on its deathbed, the film looks poignantly at these mills and workers who are now only a part of the city’s history.

5) Theatrical tribute to an icon & life
An ode to the legendary Sahir Ludhianvi, the play Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon, to be performed as part of Natarani’s theatre festival, is an attempt to translate onto stage the turbulent and inspiring journey of the poet, his personal struggles, his romances, and his contributions to Indian cinema. An amalgamation of poetry, music, and drama, this is a tribute to the genius who continues to be hailed as an icon. Another powerful show on the horizon is Solène Weinachter’s After All, which delves into one of life’s most poignant questions – what happens in the end? Using dance, comedy, storytelling, and theatre, Solène guides the audience towards what is, perhaps, an answer.
