The upcoming shows of comedian Samay Raina in Gujarat have been cancelled amid the controversy surrounding the latest episode of his show, India’s Got Latent. Raina had performances planned in Vadodara, Surat, and Ahmedabad between April 17 and April 20.
Samay Raina was set to perform a 90-minute set titled Unfiltered in Surat on April 17 and in Vadodara on April 18 and had two shows scheduled in Ahmedabad on April 19 and 20. The booking for the shows had already begun, and the Ahmedabad and Surat shows were sold out. However, now all the shows have been called off. Tickets, which were available on BookMyShow earlier in the day, were removed by noon.
The controversy is regarding the recent episode of India’s Got Latent featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, a content creator turned podcaster. During the episode, Allahbadia posed a provocative question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?”
The clip of this segment quickly went viral, triggering widespread outrage from politicians, activist groups, and journalists. The backlash also put Samay Raina and his show under scrutiny, with the national and Maharashtra women’s commissions condemning the remarks as obscene and offensive toward parents, women, and their bodies.
Although YouTube has taken down the controversial episode, the Guwahati police have filed an FIR against YouTubers and content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Samay Raina, who were part of the panel. Meanwhile, the Mumbai police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
