To fight the lethal impacts of razor-sharp kite strings during and after Uttarayan, the city-based NGO Trust-PaPa launched a massive awareness drive across Ahmedabad and its neighbouring areas, mobilising over 350 schools to educate and empower kids to collect these hazardous threads. This year, the NGO’s program reached over 250 schools and, thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated volunteers, gathered over 10.5 tonnes of thread.
Instead of resorting to harmful disposal methods like burning, Trust PaPa adheres to the 3Rs of waste management reduce, reuse, and recycle. Collaborating with AMC Waste Management, the collected threads are recycled sustainably, reinforcing the NGO’s commitment to ecological conservation. This ground-breaking initiative has earned Trust PaPa the title ‘THE THREADMEN of Gujarat.’
