The US military aircraft carrying more than 250 illegal immigrants from India has taken off from Texas and is heading to India. Sources say 30-40 Gujaratis are among the passengers. The plane is expected to land either at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport or Amritsar Airport.
It has been learnt that 2 of them are from Ahmedabad, 12 each from Mehsana and Gandhinagar, 4 from Surat and one each from Kheda, Vadodara and Patan.
The deportations follow Donald Trump taking office as the 47th US president on January 20, 2025. Reports indicate that of 41,330 Gujaratis who entered the US illegally, 5,340 received asylum status under the ‘Asylum Act’. The remaining individuals, including those on this flight, are being deported. The first deportation flight left Texas on Tuesday.
