GSHSEB gets more than 300 applications for new schools

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has received 318 applications to start new private secondary and higher secondary schools for the 2025–26 academic year. According to officials, this is a decrease from the 426 applications received last year, marking a drop of 108 applications.

Of the 318 applications, 183 are for secondary and 135 are for higher secondary schools.

The GSHSEB began accepting online applications on December 20, allowing institutions to submit their applications with the necessary documents until January 19. This deadline was later extended to January 31, giving them 32 days to apply for starting Classes 9 and 11.

After receiving the applications, the board will review them. “A meeting of the executive committee of the education board will be held in February, in which the online proposals received for starting schools will be scrutinised and temporary approval will be given by the board to eligible schools,” an official said.

Following temporary approval, district education officers will conduct on-site inspections. Based on their reports, schools will receive final approval, including a permanent registration number and an index number. However, there are frequent complaints that many schools face challenges in obtaining permanent registration even after receiving provisional approval.
