Amendments To The BH Series
It appears that the ministry has proposed new rules as part of efforts to further expand and improve the scope of BH Series.
Earlier, a new registration mark called ‘BH Series’ was included in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 on August 26, 2021.
It came into effect from September 15, 2021 and the BH Series exempts vehicle owners from re-registration of vehicles when they move from one state to another and are transferred there.
Earlier, these rules had been introduced on a voluntary basis for helping the citizens working in government offices or offices of private organisations in four or more states/union territories.
As we know that the implementation of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 is within the purview of the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations.

On October 04, 2022, the Ministry had issued a draft notification G.S.R. 672 (E) in order to amend the rules governing the Bharat Series registration mark.
In this draft, they have mentioned that the vehicles with regular registration mark can also be converted to BH Series registration mark.
With this amendment, the owner of the BH Series registration mark vehicles can now sell them to any other person eligible or ineligible for the BH Series mark.
Besides this, any vehicle which currently has a normal registration mark can also be changed to BH Series registration mark.
In order to do so, the individual is required to pay taxes so that they become eligible for the BH Series mark.
Besides this, there is a proposal to amend Rule 48 so that people can get the facility to apply for BH Series at their home or office considering the convenience of people.
In addition to this, the working certificates will have to be given by the employees of the private sector to further strengthen the prevention of misuse.
The government employees can now also get BH series registration marks on the basis of their service certificate, besides their official Identity Card.
