The direct flight connecting Ahmedabad with Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh was canceled by the airline today, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated. Several passengers were supposed to travel to the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, being held in Prayagraj, just a 2-hour, 45-minute drive from Varanasi. However, due to the sudden cancellation of the flight, all their pre-planned journeys were ruined. The airline did not provide any reason for the cancellation, and refunds were issued only after passengers created an uproar.
IndiGo Airlines flight no. 6E 6805, which takes off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport at 14:45 and lands in Varanasi at around 16:30 hours, was canceled. The airline has not provided any explanation as of now. Several passengers had to book alternate flights to continue their travel to the Maha Kumbh, while some returned home after taking the refund.
It is noteworthy that airfare to Prayagraj is skyrocketing, up to five times the usual rate, due to high demand during the Maha Kumbh Mela. Some devotees were planning to travel to Prayagraj via Varanasi. After reaching Varanasi, devotees visit the Kashi-Vishwanath Mandir before traveling to Prayagraj by road, which is only 122 kilometers from Varanasi.
