Only 7.26% of students register for standard maths in board exams; the GSHSEB offered the option last year to relieve subject fear.
Most Class 10 students have opted for basic mathematics over the more challenging standard mathematics for the upcoming GSHSEB exams. Only 7.26% have registered for Mathematics Standard in the exams starting February 27.
Of the 8843,006 students registered for Mathematics in Class 10 this year, merely 61,264 (7.26%) have selected Mathematics Standard, while 781,742 students (92.74%) have opted for Mathematics Basic, considered the easier option
Last year, 835,179 students regis tered for Mathematics in Class 10, with 793,911 choosing Mathematics a Basic and 71.568 opting for Mathematics Standard.
This year’s figures mark a decrease of 10,322 fewer students in Mathematics Standard compared to last year
Historically, mathematics proved to be a stumbling block for many students in Class 10 board examinations. Recognising this challenge, the education board introduced two mathematics options in the academic year 2022-23.
Mathematics Standard was designed for students planning to pursue mathematics in higher studies, while Mathematics Basic caters to those whose future academic plans don’t include the subject
