The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in a bid to manage its waste, has announced that a private agency will be allotted space at Pirana to produce dog food from non-vegetarian waste that is collected from mutton and fish markets in the city. This initiative aims to reduce disposal of such waste as garbage.
Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani announced the same after a meeting of the committee. He also said that approximately 1000 metric tons of green waste, including materials from the APMC, as well as garden and kitchen waste, are disposed of at Pirana. This waste has the potential to be used for green gas production. The AMC plans to assign a private agency to set up a 70-80 metric ton plant at the Pirana facility for this purpose.
Dani said that 30 lakh trees have been planted across Ahmedabad as part of the city’s environmental protection program. Furthermore, a new project has been launched to enhance the beauty of urban roads by creating vertical gardens on the pillars of flyovers and metro railway bridges. Pilot projects for vertical gardens have commenced at the Helmet Crossroad, Pakwan Crossroad, and the Metro Railway Bridge near Motera Stadium.
