The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested two international drug smugglers at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad and seized around 15 kg of cannabis (marijuana).
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted an Indian national arriving from Bangkok and found hydroponic cannabis (marijuana) in his luggage. As per an official statement from the DRI, a thorough search revealed four cloth bags containing ten airtight polythene packets. Field testing confirmed the contents as cannabis, with 9.2 kg of hydroponic cannabis valued at ₹9 crore in the illegal market.
In a separate operation, a Thai national was apprehended at SVPI Airport carrying an additional 6 kg of hydroponic cannabis. Both smugglers have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigations are underway to track the source of the drugs and dismantle the smuggling network.
