A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death late on Friday night in the Ramol area of Ahmedabad following an altercation over an accident. The accused, identified as Akshay alias Bhuriyo, a local resident of Ramol, has been arrested, and further investigations are underway, police officials confirmed.
The victim, Rajesh Rathod, a resident of Ramol, was returning home from an industrial estate on his scooter when the incident occurred. As per the police complaint, Rathod and his colleague were travelling along Sureliya Road when Akshay, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, nearly crashed his vehicle into them. This led to a heated confrontation.
Witness accounts and police reports indicate that Akshay became aggressive and abusive during the confrontation. The argument escalated quickly, turning physical. In the midst of the scuffle, Akshay reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Rathod. The victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Akshay was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident and lost control of his vehicle, which triggered the initial collision. “The accused was inebriated and could not control his vehicle, leading to the accident. When confronted, he became violent and attacked the victim,” a police official said.
The Ramol police promptly registered a case and apprehended Akshay at the scene of the crime. “An altercation broke out between the accused and the victim after the accused, who was drunk and almost rammed into their scooter. The verbal exchange escalated into a physical fight, and the accused stabbed him,” said ACP Krunal Desai, I Division.
