Fake insurance claim
A72-year-old resident of Naranpusa Harshad Pathak lost Rs) 15 lakh after he received a call from an unknow number claiming he was entitled to Rs 76 lakh from a life insurance policy. The scammers demanded Rs90,000 as the processing fee, which Harshad initially refused. They then convinced him to pay Rs 80,000, offering him a discount since he is a senior citizen status.
Over time, they demanded additional payments, citing incomplete processes, eventually scamming him of Rs 1.15 lakh Sensing fraud. Harshad reported the matter to the Ghatlodia Police who are probing the case Credit Card points scam
Rakesh Panchal, a retired Civil Hospital employee and a resident of Mermagar, was tricked by a message promising 7,800 reward points on his credit card Clicking on the providest link heentered his credit card details. Shortly after, Rs 97,000 was deducted from his account via unauthorized purchases. Vastrapur police are probing the case.
Money laundering threats
A 26-year-old software developer from Ghatlodia received an automated call about a failed courier. The scammers, pretending to be Mumbai Crime Branch officers, manipulated the vietim into sharing personal details. Using video calls and fake arrest warrants, they falsely accused him of money laundering, coercing him to transfer Rs 97,000 to avoid a fabricated legal case. Sola High Court Police have registered a case and are investigating.
Promise to provide WiFi
A 72-year-old Navrangpura resident searching online for WiFi installation contacted a fraudulent number. The scammer instructed her to download an app and enter her PIN. They then withdrew Rs 99,000 from her account. Navrangpura Police have initiated an inquiry.
